My Heart Won’t Let Me

Got a car out in the shed
and ’89 Camero
the battery is all but dead
I roll her out from time to time
dust off the dash with the 409
but I still can’t make her shine

I can’t explain the way I feel
When I slide behind the wheel
and I try to turn that key
but I know My heart won’t let me

Up the stairs and to the right
stands the door to my attic
where the memories are kept out of sight
but every night I hear their song
pleading with me, “Why don’t you just play along?”
but I know that would be wrong

I don’t recall the last I tried
To accept what I denied
Cause when I try to turn that key
I know my heart won’t let me

And I know
You wish my love would grow
and not take things so slowly

Don’t you care how I feel?
Don’t you want for this to be real?
It doesn’t matter how hard you turn
when will you learn

I don’t recall the last I tried
To accept what I denied
Cause when I try to turn that key
even willingly
my heart won’t let me

oh no no my heart won’t let me
